Community Service: Kitchen Projects to Feed Those in Need

Want to volunteer at a local nonprofit? At this event, you will be working in a commercial kitchen to help prepare high-quality meals for people unable to do so themselves. You will experience the efficiency of the assembly line and the power of working with a common goal in mind! Afterwards, there will be an optional lunch to further socialize.

 

God’s Love We Deliver cooks and home-delivers nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves. All of their services are provided free and full of love to people in need. Volunteers will be in the kitchen helping on-staff chefs with a variety of projects. You will receive instructions from the staff member for the project of the day. Tasks may include packaging meals, chopping onions, making meatballs, ladling soup, peeling potatoes, scooping baked goods or preparing fresh herbs.

New York Yankees Baseball Game

Watch the world famous New York Yankees play in the Bronx, NY. With some of the best players in the world, including the captain Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and the new addition of Juan Soto, you will watch them compete in a live MLB baseball game against the Oakland A’s, featured in the film Moneyball. Gerrit Cole, the Yankees Ace, just won the 2023 CY Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League. Who knows, maybe you will catch a foul ball to take home as a souvenir!

 

One To World has reserved a block of 70 seats, so in addition to watching the action on the field, you will have the opportunity to learn the game of baseball together and talk with other students who attend universities in the New York area!

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Walk & Dinner

Explore the festive spirit of New York City as it transforms into a magical lightshow! The Dyker Heights Christmas Lights display has become a must-see New York attraction during the holidays. This Brooklyn neighborhood is home to over-the-top Christmas light decorations with life-sized Santas, sleighs, snowmen and Christmas carols blasting from loudspeakers.

 

We will meet in Manhattan, near Madison Square Park, for a group dinner at Saravanaa Bhavan, an authentic South Indian restaurant famous for its vegetarian dosas.  Afterwards, we will take the subway into Brooklyn together to go on a walk through this famous neighborhood. This is the perfect opportunity to meet other international students and to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine. Bundle up and join us to get in the holiday spirit.

United Nations: Private Tour, Briefing, & Virtual Reality Experience

Join us for a day at the United Nations! Not only will you participate in an hour-long guided tour of this renowned institution, but you will also have the unique opportunity to attend a private briefing led by a UN Peacekeeping Communications Officer with field experience primarily in Africa. 

 

She will be discussing her past Peacekeeping operations in Sudan, South Sudan, East Timor, Western Sahara, and SyriaAfter listening to the briefing and asking questions, you will have the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Reality experience about a Special Political Missions in either Colombia or the Democratic Republic of Congo. The holiday season is a time for kindness, generosity, and good deeds. Join your fellow international students to spend an evening distributing food, clothing, and personal care items to the homeless population of New York City. We’ll be partnering with the non-profit organization, Midnight Run, to help New Yorkers in need. The evening will start out at the One To World office where we will assemble bagged meals. Afterwards, we’ll head out into the city to meet Midnight Run staff to distribute the food. This is a great way to have conversations with and learn about the homeless residents of NYC in a safe and welcoming environment.

Michel Perez, President of MAPI LLC, a consulting firm specializing in financial compliance and a consultant to Promontory Financial Group, as well a Patrick Simonnet, a New York-based Managing Director and the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) of Bank of China for the USA. Combined, our two speakers have more than forty years of corporations in the U.S. and abroad, making this the ideal program for those learning about corporate governance for the first time, and those deepening their knowledge of the subject.

 

As experts in corporate governance, Michel and Patrick will speak on the importance of responsible corporate management and best practices in the field. They will share their professional experiences in the business world and facilitate a conversation on this important topic that impacts all of us consumers, professionals, and global citizens. To apply, please submit an essay here of no more than 900 words, answering the question: “What is the number one corporate governance issue in your home country and how would you address it?” There is a first-place prize of $750, and a second-place prize of $500, made possible by the Harold S. Geneen Charitable Trust. Please note, you MUST attend at least one session to qualify for the scholarship.

Visit to Princeton University & Football Game

Looking to take a day trip and get out of NYC? Join us as we spend the day in Princeton, New Jersey on Princeton University’s campus! We’ll get a crash course in American Football before watching a matchup between ivy league rivals Princeton and Yale University. We will also have lunch with Princeton international students and tour the campus. See below for the full itinerary!

Founded in 1746 as the Collegiate School, it is the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and among the most prestigious in the world. Public Speaking Workshop

Public Speaking skills are vital for clear communication, confidence, and persuasive expression, leading to success in various personal and professional endeavors. This workshop is designed to help you speak effortlessly. Through interactive games and activities, attendees will gain valuable practice in public speaking skills for their next interview or to introduce an honoree at One To World’s annual gala (see photo above)!

 

Aman is a public speaking coach at Ultraspeaking. He helps clients from all walks of life combat speaking challenges in their personal and professional lives. This workshop will cater to individuals who use English as a second language and struggle to converse in English. You can expect to gain effective delivery, spontaneity and an improved ability of storytelling. In addition, you will learn to improve your delivery skills for presentations and networking events.

 

This workshop is designed for you to leave as a more expressive and authentic speaker, but mostly to make speaking fun!

The event will take place in Midtown Manhattan and light refreshments will be provided.
