Matteo Gatti is a professor of law at Rutgers and a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute. He writes about corporate power, governance, and the shifting role of business in public life. His work spans corporate law, M&A, and political economy, with a focus on accountability and stakeholder dynamics. Before entering academia, he practiced corporate law in New York and Europe. He is the author of two books and numerous articles.
Richard Alsop is a Partner at A&O Shearman. He advises corporations and investment banks on a broad variety of capital markets work, including IPOs, convertible bonds and investment grade and high-yield bond transactions. He is a contributor and editor for the firm’s annual Corporate Governance Survey. From 2003 through 2008, Richard was Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Corporate Law at Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., where he advised executive management and the board of directors on major corporate transactions, corporate finance, corporate governance, executive compensation and other matters. From 1994 through 2003, he held other senior roles in the legal department of Merrill Lynch, including Equity Capital Markets Counsel, Investment Banking General Counsel and Debt Markets General Counsel. He rejoined A&O Shearman in 2010.
As experts in corporate governance, Matteo and Richard will speak on the importance of responsible corporate management and best practices in the field. They will share their professional experiences in the business and academic world and facilitate a conversation on this important topic that impacts all of us consumers, professionals, and global citizens. There will also be an opportunity for networking with the speakers and other attendees, as well as refreshments.
Attending this event is also an opportunity to qualify for a scholarship of up to $750!
To apply, please submit an essay here of no more than 900 words, answering the question: “What is the number one corporate governance issue in your home country and how would you address it?” There is a first-place prize of $750, and a second-place prize of $500, made possible by the Harold S. Geneen Charitable Trust. Please note, you MUST attend at least one session to qualify for the scholarship.
