Visit to the Metropolitan Opera: Madama Butterfly

Are you excited for a classy day out at the opera? We’re taking a group to enjoy the Madama Butterfly opera, a tale about a young Japanese geisha who falls deeply in love with and marries an American naval officer. Join a group of international students for this visit to Lincoln Center. More about the opera below:

Cultures collide in Puccini’s poignant tale of a loyal geisha and a callous American naval officer whose fleeting romance leaves only devastation behind. Two of today’s leading artists—Ailyn Pérez and Sonya Yoncheva—make their Met role debuts as Cio-Cio-San, one of opera’s ultimate soprano roles. Tenors SeokJong Baek, Adam Smith—in his Met debut—and Matthew Polenzani co-star as Pinkerton in Anthony Minghella’s production, an “inspired vision” (The New York Times) that has become a classic.

Broadway Show: “The Great Gatsby” the Musical

POV: You recently arrived to the U.S. and you are ready to start crossing some things off your “must do” list. One To World is here to help! We have secured group tickets for you and up to 29 other international students and scholars from all across the New York/New Jersey area to experience a Broadway musical this February!

The Great Gatsby, adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel of the same name, follows mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his obsessive attempts to rekindle a romance with socialite Daisy Buchanan. The two had a relationship years prior when he was poor. Although she has since married another rich man, Gatsby buys a house across from hers and throws lavish parties, hoping she’ll attend.

The story is narrated by Nick Carraway, a middle-class cousin of Daisy’s who moves into a small house next to Gatsby and befriends him. The story’s main themes are love and obsession, memory, materialism and class differences, and the American Dream, which is out of reach for many of the characters.
