SUMMARY:One To World Walk: The Squares - Union to Madison
DESCRIPTION:Join us on this exclusive walking tour of Gramercy Park and the Flatiron District. We will explore the urban design principles that inspired the city grid and learn how public parks like Madison and Union Squares were built to accommodate irregular spaces in the process of urban development. This is a special opportunity to learn about the architectural evolution of NYC from 1811 to today\, while getting to know the city from a new perspective! \nOur guide\, William Singer\, AIA\, is the Chief Plan Examiner for The City of New York Department of Buildings and an expert in the design and construction of large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers\, transportation hubs\, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings he was a partner at Gruzen Samton\, a NYC & Virginia-based architecture\, planning\, interior design and systems engineering firm. A Fulbright fellow (Slovenia\, 1993-94)\, he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University\, as well as a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2004\, Singer received a City of New York Arts Commission Excellence in Design for the renovation design of El Museo Del Barrio. \nPlease login to register for this event.

Whether you’re a New York Novice\, Empire State Expert\, or somewhere in between\, join us in kicking off the fall semester with a scavenger hunt around New York City! \nWe’ll assign you a team\, and together you will earn points based on how many tasks you can accomplish on the game’s checklist. For example\, one of the tasks could ask you to take a photo with the Fearless Girl Statue in Lower Manhattan (see the photo above).
