SUMMARY:One To World Walk: Architecture Tour of the Upper East Side
DESCRIPTION:The Upper East Side neighborhood has gained much of its international fame from movies and TV shows like Gossip Girl and Sex & the City. It’s also home to glamorous landmarks such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, 998 Fifth Ave\, Park Avenue\, and the Cherokee Apartments that we will be exploring on our walk. Our guide will share many stories about how NYC’s history is etched into its buildings! \n  \nOur guide\, William Singer\, AIA\, is the Chief Plan Examiner for The City of New York Department of Buildings and an expert in designing and constructing large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers\, transportation hubs\, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings\, he was a partner at Gruzen Samton\, an NYC & Virginia-based architecture\, planning\, interior design\, and systems engineering firm. A Fulbright fellow (Slovenia\, 1993-94)\, he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University and a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It contains 12 museum exhibition halls\, including a live animal collection with 110 species\, giant aquariums\, live simulcast surgeries\, hurricane-and-tornado-force wind simulators\, and many more interesting exhibits. SUMMARY:Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA)
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow international students for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to network\, share your views\, and visit a part of the U.S. many locals never get to see! \n  \nThe Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) has been held annually since 1960. The conference is a mix of speeches and panels featuring high-ranking military and civilian leaders\, as well as discussion roundtables and social events. The keynote speaker this year is Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield\, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Past speakers have included Secretary Henry Kissinger\, Secretary Madeleine Albright\, Ambassador Susan Rice\, and General Paul Nakasone. At their discussion sessions\, delegates will get the opportunity to react to the contents of speeches\, to more personally meet other delegates\, and to guide the conversation by voicing their opinion on the many subtopics related to the conference theme. Around 1-3 international delegates will be assigned to each roundtable\, along with student delegate from civilian and military institutions from around the United States. \n  \nOne To World’s delegation plays a special role in this prestigious foreign affairs conference by adding a critical international perspective to the student deliberations on U.S. foreign policy. As international student participants\, One To World delegates enrich the conference with their various national and cultural perspectives\, as well as their academic experience. In turn\, American undergraduate conference participants and Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point share their cultural\, political\, and educational views with One To World’s delegates in an exciting academic and social setting. \n  \nThe SCUSA fee is $300. This fee covers the registration fee\, round-trip transportation from NYC\, accommodations\, and most meals. Delegates are responsible for any spending money they may require for souvenirs\, perhaps on meals\, and snacks. We will also learn how public parks like Madison and Union Squares were built to accommodate irregular spaces in the process of urban development. This is a special opportunity to gain insight into the architectural evolution of NYC from 1811 to today\, while getting to know the city from a new perspective! \n  \nOur guide\, William Singer\, AIA\, is the Chief Plan Examiner for The City of New York Department of Buildings and an expert in the design and construction of large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers\, transportation hubs\, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings he was a partner at Gruzen Samton\, a NYC & Virginia-based architecture\, planning\, interior design and systems engineering firm. A Fulbright fellow (Slovenia\, 1993-94)\, he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University\, as well as a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With more than ten years of work experience in quantitative finance\, financial modeling\, optimization\, and machine learning\, he has been actively involved in quantitative finance and financial data science. Taatian has participated in conferences and presentations worldwide\, from Italy\, Taiwan\, France\, the UK\, and Iran. DESCRIPTION:There’s no better way to get to know your community than through service projects! Join other international students and local New Yorkers at Asser Levy Park in Brooklyn for a day of helping to keep New York’s green spaces healthy and beautiful. \n  \nWe’ll be doing some light gardening activities\, including removing debris and invasive plant species\, weeding\, mulching and planting. Gardening tools and gloves will be provided\, just wear sturdy shoes and comfortable clothes. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water! \n  \nAfter we finish beautifying the park\, you’ll have the option to join our Coordinator\, Noa for some fun in Coney Island! Coney Island is a New York City neighborhood that features an amusement area and includes 50 or more separate rides and attractions. We will be right next to the fun – the Aquarium\, Cyclone\, and Wonder Wheel! \n  \nThis is a great way to spend a day at one of New York’s most beautiful parks\, while making new friends and exploring one of the most popular attractions in the city. \n  \nPlease login to register for this event.

DESCRIPTION:Join fellow international students for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to network\, share your views\, and visit a part of the U.S. many locals never get to see! \n  \nThe Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference (NAFAC) has been held annually since 1960. The conference is a mix of speeches and panels featuring high-ranking military and civilian leaders\, as well as discussion roundtables and social events. Past speakers have included former U.S. Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton\, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates\, and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. At their discussion sessions\, delegates will get the opportunity to react to the contents of speeches\, to more personally meet other delegates\, and to guide the conversation by voicing their opinion on the many subtopics related to the conference theme. Around 1-3 international delegates will be assigned to each roundtable\, along with student delegate from civilian and military institutions from around the United States. \n  \nOne To World’s delegation plays a special role in this prestigious foreign affairs conference by adding a critical international perspective to the student deliberations on U.S. foreign policy.
