Spend the weekend with host families in Bushwick in celebration of Black History Month. Experience Brooklyn's diversity and enjoy local hospitality as the families of St. Thomas Episcopal Church open their homes to you for the weekend. This overnight community visit includes a tour of historic Brooklyn, and an international food fair (potluck)! You will also have the opportunity to present briefly about your country to the church community during Sunday's service.
Host Family FAQ:
- We have been working with this community for over 20 years, so the majority of our host families are very experienced, and all of our hosts are passionate about meeting students from around the world and cross-cultural sharing.
- We have a wonderful and dedicated Host Community Coordinator that lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn and carefully matches you with a family once you're enrolled. She personally gets to know each of the host families and gets reference checks on any families that are new to the program.
- Our host families come in all shapes and sizes; some of our hosts are married couples, some have children, some have pets, etc. Their homes also look different, from apartments to townhouses, but all are warm and welcoming. You may either have your own room or a shared room, with your own comfortable bed to sleep in, no matter where you are placed.
- Most of our host families can only accommodate one student at a time, but occasionally hosts can take two or more students. If you would like to be placed with a friend/family member, please contact Alexa before signing up.
