Sunset Park, in Southwest Brooklyn, has always been an immigrant neighborhood and is now the anchor of New York City’s largest Chinese community and home to a diverse and numerous Latino population. Learn about the complex history of this ethnically diverse neighborhood through the lens of tour guide, Joe Svehlak, who has 40 years of experience in community activism and urban development.
Date: Friday, April 5th
We will walk up and down streets with century-old row houses, exploring the largest district in the Northeast listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and visit some of NYC’s notable churches and civic buildings, including the oldest cooperative apartment building in New York City. You will have a chance to see the magnificent harbor and views of Manhattan's skyline from the renovated hilltop park and its landmarked Art Deco recreation facility. We will end the tour with a meal in NYC’s largest Chinatown.
